In year 1730 - The place from where the Chipko movement originated. Amrita Devi was at home with her three daughters Asu, Ratni, Bhagu Bai in the village of Khejadli. Suddenly they came to know that the soldiers of the Maharaja of Marwar had come to cut the trees of their village khejdi. Even after refusing to allow cutting the trees, the soldiers did not stop, so she hugged the tree. The soldiers cut her down along with the tree. After this, her daughter’s & other villagers also hugged to the trees but the soldiers had killed everyone.
The idol of Amrita Devi who sacrificed along with her
daughters & the names of the people who lived with her will be inscribed
The names of those who sacrificed their lives to save the
trees in the 17th century were missing in the pages of history. Now
a memorial is being built for the 363 martyrs who were with Amrita Devi to save
the Khejri trees. All the names of the martyrs have been engraved after 292
years so that today’s generation can know who are the ones who were beheaded by
hugging to the trees? Why did this incident happen? The Jodhpur development
authority is doing this work as per the budget announcement of the chief
minister where the names of 363 martyrs have been engraved on the Chitar stone
in a circular design. The khejadli incident is mentioned on 2 stones. special arrangements
have been made for lighting on all the stones. The idol of Amrita Devi Bishnoi
will be placed on a platform of 10 feet between circular stones.
The incident is 292 years old, there is no picture of Amrita
Devi a dummy painting based on folklore has been made to make the idol
Since the incident is 292 years old and there is no picture
of Amrita Devi anywhere in history. So the JDA has also faced trouble in the making
of a face for the idol. For this, efforts were made with the help of the people
of Bishnoi society and local MLA Mahendra Bishnoi. Now a dummy is being made if
the face is approved then an idol will be made. In the first phase, the site of
Amrita Devi and 363 martyrs has been built on the memorial. In the second phase
work will be done from tourism point of view Baradari will be constructed in
this.
